10 Bay Area Nonprofit Agencies Receive Surprise Grants From Peninsula Community Foundation
PCF Gives Away $40,000 in Funding to Kick-Off Its Own 40th Birthday Celebration
SAN MATEO, Calif., Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- When asked how Peninsula Community Foundation® would celebrate its 40th year of service to the community, PCF president Sterling Speirn selected to give away $40,000 in surprise funding to 10 area nonprofits. The grants, which can help cover critical operation costs and support under-funded special programs, reinforce PCF's commitment to assist those residents who are most in need in the region. These grants kick-off a year-long celebration that will feature grant distribution of an estimated $60M for 2005 and conclude with a large-scale community event in fall 2005.
"Peninsula Community Foundation has supported hundreds of nonprofits serving thousands of local residents," states Jackie Speier, California State Senator. "I applaud PCF's creative approach in marking their own 40th year by supporting a broad range of community agencies. The entire Bay Area and Silicon Valley will continue to benefit from PCF's imaginative and dedicated work to make this region a vibrant place to live for everyone."
The grants, intended to help cover critical operation costs and to support under-funded special programs, reinforce PCF's commitment to assisting nonprofit agencies, which in turn assist residents across the region. They will be awarded to:
Coastside Children's Programs (Half Moon Bay) administers child care and learning centers that provide quality educational, recreational and skill-building activities before and after school and during the summer. PCF: A 40 Year History of Supporting the Community
"These surprise grants are just the beginning of 12 months of celebrating the joy of giving back to our community as we mark our 40th year," explained Sterling Speirn, President, Peninsula Community Foundation. "In 2005, our grant making is expected to exceed the $60M we distributed in 2004, and we will announce expanded educational programs with our nonprofit partners, all leading up to a community-based event in the fall. We hope our focus on giving back to the community will inspire people across the region to give to causes that assist our neighbors in need."
Peninsula Community Foundation was founded in 1964 through the vision of Theodore and Frances Lilienthal. Since its creation, PCF has built an organization now comprised of 53 staff members stewarding $560M in assets, distributing a total of $400M since 1964. The staff is dedicated to working with philanthropists, nonprofits, and government agencies to identify and build partnerships and initiatives to help solve this area's critical social issues. While PCF's Community Endowment focuses solely on local issues in San Mateo & Santa Clara counties, the staff works with many donors who support global causes through Donor Advised Funds and Supporting Organizations.
